As an entrepreneur, I have often wondered about the value of Instagram Reels. I mean, they are entertaining, but do I really have to dance for you to see I’m a great book coach? But last night, 𝗮 𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗹 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗽𝗲𝗱 𝗺𝗲 𝘀𝗲𝗲 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗶𝘁 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗱 𝗺𝘆 𝘄𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗲 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗼𝗻 𝗟𝗜𝗙𝗘.
Really, it was something I already knew. Something so very simple. I had it, but I wasn’t using that knowledge. That reel reminded me, and now I’ve created this little video (in link) as it might help you remember to use this insight in your life when you need it.
Reclaiming Your Power
Like you, I’ve been working on myself, but I still get overwhelmed with projects or with life in general. And when I’m in that space, I just keep overthinking and spinning. Until I remember I’ve been here before, and I have tools. The biggest and best tools I have is my love of WRITING AND READING.
So, the reel that moved me was about overthinking and under-thinking. It reminded me–and now I am reminding you: if you are feeling overwhelmed, write it all down so it is out of your head. I find it so much easier to see through the BS and pluck out priorities after I’ve written the chaos in my head down, whether in my journal, a digital note within my project management app, or even a random sheet of paper like I did today. From that, I made notes and a PLAN. Then I could slip back into POWERFUL again.
Finding Inspiration From Writing and From Other Authors
When I’m just not sure what to do, and I’m feeling stuck, books help. Someone’s been there before; the way they ordered their thinking and thought through their options might be just what you need. I find comedy helpful, as when I laugh, I can see where I’ve gone wrong and right it. Self-help books, memoir, and novels with a social justice theme always seem to do it for me. How about you?
So, is it an exaggeration that this reminder “saved my life”? Well, perhaps. But I was in a bad space. My head was reeling (no pun intended) with deadlines, bills, family obligations, figuring how to get rid of fleas (my three cats and dogs are infested–how did I miss that until it got to this stage?), real and imagined insults, plus the summer is ending, and I just don’t feel like I took enough time to enjoy it. I really feel that remembering to write, allowed me to sit down and work through what I need to do to get on top of all the things in my head.
It’s All in the Presentation
Sometimes a message can get to you the way you need, and it hits. That reel did it for me. So simple. And I hope you will also remember: if you are overwhelmed, write. If you need inspiration, read.
